The path of least resistance in business

Why make business harder than it needs to be? This is a question I ask my clients all the time. We know that starting, building and maintaining a business takes effort. Every level you get it requires a new level of grit and determination. So why do we make it harder for ourselves.

Some of the ways we make it harder:

  • Trying to copy other peoples strategies
  • Doing things you hate
  • Feeling bad

We have been led to believe that life, business, success, health, well anything really can’t all be achieved at the same time. You can have money, success but no life. Or you can have a life, and good health but no money. But this isn’t true.

I believed this when I was employed and for the first few years of running my business. But I was lead down a new path. I like to call it the path of least resistance. Meaning I can have a work-life balance and earn money. I can rest and still be a leader in my industry. I can have all the things I want, achieve all the things I want, and do it in a way that I enjoy.

So let’s break these down and understand what they each are and how you can not do them. If you want to learn more – check out my live webinar replay here where I discuss this topic in more detail.

Trying to copy other people strategies

Now don’t get me wrong, I am not saying reinvent the wheel. But what you do need to think about, is what is most comfortable for you. Do you think video, written word, live webinars or one to one calls to sell your products or services? Are you all about running group coaching, having a membership, having a hands off product, or working 1:1 with customers?

These are all important factors when you start the journey of building a business and a strategy. I hear some any clients say – “everyone is doing video right now, so I need to do that same” or “telling my deepest secret is the only way I can make sales”.

I want you to know that none of that is true. You have to be authentic to you. I know people selling in webinars, through ads, from eBooks, from direct messages, even from a word document. The main thing is that you are doing something that comes really naturally to you.

Their are a 100 ways to get people in front of your program, product or service. So try not pick on that you hate. Which brings us onto the next point.

Doing things you hate

Think about the energy you create when you do something you LOVE, it is easy, you flow, feel comfortable, and people notice.

Now thing about what it feels like when you do things you HATE. The opposite right, you have a feeling of resistance, struggle, fear and finally procrastination sets in. You find your sorting out the linen cupboard, followed by the Tupperware.

This is not the best way to grow your business.

Now imagine, you set a vision, you create a plan and everything inside that plan is within your comfort zone or just on the edge. No far stretches, no huge leaps, just a tiny hop. How much more success do you think you will have in your business? How much more momentum could you build to move your forward?

Picking elements that you love, including the clients, offering, way of marketing and selling will all make a huge difference. As will you feeling good about running your business.

Feeling bad

The path of least resistance is about not feeling bad all of the time. When you approach business from a place of comparison you will always struggle to be happy. With this in mind, you need to focus on what makes you happy. What you enjoy doing. Where your superpower lies.

This is what will make the difference. Take the path of least resistance in your business, build momentum and then you can continue to stretch your comfort zone. This is to say you will never need to extend your comfort zone, it is just a strategy to keep moving and keep control while you stretch it.
