Getting a list that actually makes you money

Everyone is talking about creating a list – if you have a list you can make money.

WELL, THAT IS ONLY PARTLY TRUE.

When you are looking to build a list you need to have some core elements in place:

  1. Clearly defined target market to get onto your list
  2. A clearly defined path that you take them on to make a purchase
  3. An automated mailing sequence that sends without you doing any work
  4. A reason for people to sign up in the first place
  5. A weekly (or monthly) round-up that reminds them you exist.

Clearly defined target market to get onto your list

Answer these questions:

  1. Who do I love working with?
  2. How can you serve them in the best way?
  3. Where will you find them online?

A clearly defined path that you take them on to make a purchase

If you don’t have a path that leads to your offering them something to buy, then you will make no money from your list. You need to think strategically about why people are joining your list and how can you take them through a journey of getting to know you, like you, and then trust you enough to spend their money.

An automated mailing sequence that sends without you doing any work

Using an automated sequence of emails (5-10 emails) that help your audience get to know what you do is really important. Every email should add value to that customer’s life, business, or day. And should include little snippets of your life, so that they can get to know you.

A reason for people to sign up in the first place

Now, this is where people go wrong so often! You need to have a compelling reason that someone will give you their email address. Think about your ideal customer and what exactly do they need right now that will give them a mini transformation. You need to give them a free download, a short video series, new learning, a template that changes their lives. Something to make them part with their email address. Then you start the sequence of getting to know you and then go into the sequence of them buying from you.

A weekly (or monthly) round-up that reminds them you exist.

Lastly, not everyone that signs up will buy right away, so you need to make sure that it doesn’t just go dead in the water after the first set of emails. You need to make sure that you pop up in their email box at least once a month with valuable content – links to blogs, videos, social media pages etc – but better still bi-weekly or weekly. You want this person to remember what you do, so as soon as they need that thing – they contact you and don’t go to Google.

If you can get this sequence working, and automated, then you are on a win to be able to grow your business massively.
