The world is moving to video. entrepreneurs need to stay ahead of the world so that means learning some skills and tips on video creation. Having products or services that can include recorded elements will also save you time. And we all know time equals money.
SO WHY HAS THE WORLD MOVED TO VIDEO
- Content overload online – need a new way to stand out
- Builds trust faster than text – people like to see how they are buying from
- Quicker for people – people are lazy, so giving them something to listen to instead of read is good
THE REASONS I HAVE HEARD AS TO WHY YOU DON’T WANT TO DO VIDEO
- I don’t know how – I have heard this loads – if you have a smartphone then you are ready! I will tell you exactly how below!
- I don’t have editing software to make it look fancy – honestly, you don’t need it. Even just going live on your social media platforms or recording short 60-second bite-size information videos can be enough.
- I hate being a camera and hearing my own voice – In the nicest possible way – Please, get out of your own way!!!! You aren’t making the videos for you to watch back, you are making them for customers. And your customers see and hear you already, so they won’t be surprised by the videos – I promise!
HOW TO START MAKING VIDEOS:
- Buy a small tripod to hold your smartphone – This means that you can be “handsfree”. So you can set up your phone in front of you and then hit record and sit back and talk. This is great for lives as well as recording. This is the one I use.
- Or you can use the Webcam on your computer and record directly into zoom. This means the file is already on your computer when you are done and you can then upload it to any site you want. I do this with my 60-sec learning videos – watch one here – and if you need to buy a webcam – this is the one I use – webcam
- It is so tempting to look at yourself to see how you look but when you set up make sure you are talking directly to the camera lens, not the screen. Think about the person watching the video, you want to be making eye contact with them. This builds trust fast and makes you look confident.
- Have a good background – So for my learning videos, I use a white background to not distract the watcher from the information. But on lives, I sit in front of my bookshelves in my study – this has a few books, candles, plants, and my globe. Watch a live replay here
- Be really authentic – people don’t need to see high tech videos that are really fancy. They need to get high-quality value while getting to know you. Your videos are all part of your promotion and branding. You want people to see the true you so that if they sign up to work with you it isn’t suddenly a surprise.
- If you are using natural light make sure it is positioned behind the camera and that you are lit up well.
Once you have your filming done you can then upload it to the relevant sites, I like to hold all my videos on youtube for ease, but I also post them natively to each social media platform (this means directly). All the platforms like you to post the video file so that users don’t have to leave the site to watch the video. So if you do this it will be seen by more people because the sites like it.
HOW TO ADVANCE YOUR SKILLS WHEN YOU ARE READY TO INVEST:
- Once you are ready to invest you can get some lights. Having lighting set up will give you more flexibility as you won’t have to wait for the sun to be in the right place and you can film on cloudy days! You don’t have to spend hundreds thou – here are my lights and they work great!
- If you are wanting to do videos where you move around a room or stand further away from the camera it is important to have a mic system – again you don’t have to spend hundreds, you can use a lapel mic with great success – here is mine and it has a great extension cable that makes it easy to use. You could step this up and get a cordless one, but they are more expensive.
- If you want to upgrade from the webcam or phone – you could get yourself a great portable camera for recording, this is a recommendation from a friend that vlogs. These setups start getting much more expensive, but remember you really don’t need to start here!
HOW TO START MAKING YOUR VIDEOS A LITTLE MORE FANCY
Once you are all up and running, you are comfortable with the recording you might get to the point where you want to start editing your videos. With editing software, you are able to add in music, subtitles, start and end screens and even start to make your videos more cinematic with clips of B-roll.
A-roll – is the actual video content
B-roll – is short bursts of other engaging content – like clouds, you driving somewhere, walking along the beach, lifestyle shots, event guests arriving, clips of you talking on a stage.
I use Filmora to edit my videos for my Blueprint to Business Success Program and I also teach the lovely gang of entrepreneurs each in the group all about how to do this along with how to build your own Blueprint to create success in your business.
