How to use your business as a springboard to change the world

I know for a number of entrepreneurs at the moment, you aren’t even thinking about changing the world – well not as your main goal.

Right now your main goal is to pay your bills and keep the lights on!

However, I have had the same conversations with clients over and over again in the past few weeks. Right now is not the time to just do anything, it is the time to get crystal clear on what you want and how you are going to achieve it.

I give my clients the answer they are looking for when all of them ask – What should I do now? And I wanted to share them with you.

THERE ARE 3 SIMPLE STEPS YOU SHOULD BE DOING:

  1. Get clear on who you want to serve
  2. Decide exactly what value you want to offer
  3. Figure out how to talk to your ideal client

1. GET CLEAR ON WHO YOU WANT TO SERVE

The easiest way to do this is to answer a few questions. So you can do the normally marketing avatar questions – ages, gender, interests, goals, etc. But I tend to find that this still ends up being too board or my customers want to serve to many different groups. So the final questions you need to ask once you have all the different groups is this:

Q: If you could only work with 1 exact group of people for the rest of your business life, who would that be?

So if you take what I do, I have the skills and have worked previously with large corporates, but they are not my most ideal person to work it. For me, it is Entrepreneurs, the small to medium, or sole-traders. So I make sure that everything I write talks to those specific people rather than a CEO of a large company.

2. DECIDE EXACTLY WHAT VALUE YOU WANT TO OFFER

Ideally, you want to create a value ladder for your business, so people can start with one product and then the really dedicated customers and progress through the value ladder. I work with a number of my clients to create their value ladders and one might look like this:

You offer a free mini-course that leads into an amazing online course, that leads into a one-one coaching experience that might then lead into a large in-person event.

Not everyone that does the free course will become a customer, but you will be adding value and building a strong brand reputation as an expert in your field. For the people that do buy the course, they will have moved into the buying process are much more likely to move through the ladder to your high ticket offers.

TOP TIP: Build one value ladder and focus on building it one piece at a time. Don’t try and build multiple income streams at once as that will not be successful. You need to focus all of your attention on one core area.

3. FIGURE OUT HOW TO TALK TO YOUR IDEAL CLIENT

Now that the world is changing and everything is moving online it is important that you are being present on your social media accounts. It is important for you to remain at the font of people’s minds and are standing out as an expert. My top 3 tips would be:

  • Add value first – work on 9 times value add before asking your audience to join a mailing list, invite or tag friends. You need to first show your content is worth it and that you won’t spam people coming to your site!
  • Include real-life pictures of you, your team, your lifestyle, your products – while a nice canvas design template is great (and I highly recommend you do use these), it is important that people see you in your brand.
  • Be consistent – and that is in everything! You want to post a set number of times a day at a minimum, you want to use the same colors, fonts, style of templates. When people see your posts they should instantly think of your brand. Because they just know that style is yours.

And as a little bonus, I would recommend getting really good at telling your business story. I follow a lady – Stacey Macdonald on Facebook that has some amazing ideas on that front – here is a link to check her out – https://www.facebook.com/TheModernStoryteller/

If you have the ability to get these three things right, you will be creating the most amazing foundation for your business. Meaning that not only can you stabilize your business now, but you can create the springboard for the future.

Some people create a business that links directly into their passion, I have approached it from a different angle. I have created a business I absolutely love, which gives me the money and freedom to undertake my passion as often as I want. So for me, that means working to educate underprivileged communities. This could be through working with teachers from education charities, helping charities build strong business plans to support funding plans, or even teaching girls in poor communities about health education to help them not miss school and get the best education. As you can see my heart is in education but I haven’t limited the poor or area at all. And that is how I have used my business as a springboard to change the world. And by getting the foundation right now, you can achieve the same.
