I have always had people that I look up to on my journey. And while some people might be drawn to the big houses, fancy cars or luxury yachts. I have always had a different idea of what I think success looks like.
When I see influencers in any field, the first thing I look for on their social media or websites is what charities they support. I think this is a fundamental show of the type of person I am going to support or give money too.
And I will always choose to align with those that give back. The Marie Forleo’s, Russell Brunson’s, Tony Robbin’s of the world.
So why do I think this is so fundamental in business?
Because having a purpose bigger than yourself will always propel you further than working only for yourself.
Now, this is not to say that you should work for free, or give everything away, but rather that you must have a defining cause that you always help. Something that is close to your heart. And you can choose how you help that cause so that with it might be:
- Sharing a % of your profits,
- Giving back a % of your time
As you start to grow your business, this will naturally grow. But you can also then leverage your audience and networks to gain more momentum for your cause.
My husband and I have very different causes, and it is not that we don’t support each others causes, it is just that we both one that stands out more prominently. For me, it has always been education – equal and fair education for anyone focusing mostly on girls in underprivileged areas as they suffer frequently. My husband, it is all animals, the correct treatment, anti-poaching, conservation – if it is saving animals he is in his element.
I always find it easier to push through the hard times when I have a bigger purpose, something bigger than me that will be let down if I don’t continue to fight and grow my business.
What is your bigger purpose, what propels you forward in your business?
