Being able to show up in your business and while promoting your business will make a huge difference in how much you earn. But yet so many business owners really struggle with this.
I hear things like “People will get bored if I say the same thing twice”, “People will think I only care about money if I ask them to pay me” or “I’m to scared to make a mistake so don’t go live!”
This is really important to know and understand. No one cares about your business as much as you.
If you think about someone you follow online, someone you like. Now try to recall, without looking, what they posted lasted Monday. The likelihood is that can’t. It is the same for your customers.
The big thing about showing up is that mostly it is about timing. Being in the right place, at the right time, with the right information.
How to show up?
Understanding how to show up in your business is key. The main idea is that you are the CEO, Boss, Directo. And even if none of those terms sit well with you, it is true. I wrote a whole blog on being the CEO in your business – read it here.
So what does being the CEO mean? Simply that you build the vision, direction and strategy for the business. So many of my clients arrive to the 12-week program with the wrong approach to their business.
Being concerned with perfection, struggling to take action and not stepping into the leadership mindset are the biggest challenges I help fix. And can help because I was that person. I struggled with the same things and needed to learn how to overcome them and then grow.
I recommend that my clients schedule out 2 hours of CEO time a week. This time is specifically for thinking, planning, and reviewing. By doing this you will be working on your business for the minimum amount of time each week. This is a great place to start.
What to do in CEO time?
Firstly this time must be safeguarded, no phones, Internet, meetings or people should interfere with this time. Secondly it should be used purely to think, grow and expand the business and your own leadership position.
As a small business owner your Leadership position is really important it is what will set you apart from everybody else in the market. So understanding what you stand for and what is important to you becomes really really great marketing tool to set yourself apart. When you have your CEO time, it’s important to spend that time focusing on key areas to grow the business.
The times of questions you can use to focus:
- What do I believe to be true in the world?
- What do I stand for in the world?
- How can I add the most value for my customers?
- What makes my business unique from everyone else’s?
- Who can I best help with what I have to offer?
- In 2 years from now what I wanna be known for in my industry?
- If I had to give a TedTalk on my business what would the topic be?
By answering these questions time and time again your start to get a really clear understanding of what your thought leadership position is and how that is unique from everyone else in the market. This is what will make the difference in how you show up in your market and in your business and is what will set you apart from everybody else that’s doing the same thing as you.
Once you have a message, you know need to know where to share it.
Where you share your message is just as important as your message itself. People need to hear your message in the right place in order for to land in the best possible way.
When you 1st start out the best advice that could be given is to start small in one place and really really build a strong base. My advice to customers is always to pick a one social media platform which they think their customers will hang out on the most and put all of their efforts into making that their sole marketing tool. This coupled with a good funnel will make it easy for you to still attract and convert large numbers of customers without overstretching yourself trying to be everywhere all the time.
Each social media platform will have its own strategy and this is why it’s best to focus on one at a time. But regardless of which platform you chose, the really key thing in showing up is to have your own website will you can send customers and then take them on a journey.
How to share your message
You also need to think about how you share your message with regards to the actual medium that you use. It’s important to remember that everybody has a different type of medium that they prefer and you need to think about 2 key questions when choosing the medium for you.
The 1st question you need to ask yourself is what is the easiest for me to create? This could be written posts, video content, graphics or even reels and gifs. The 2nd question to consider is what is my audience most likely to consume?
By answering these 2 questions you should be able to figure out what the best platform is for you to show up on but also the best medium to use in order to engage with your customers.
Why is this important?
By taking the time to work on your business and clarify your message you will be doing something that the majority of small business owners never do. This alone will make a massive difference in your business and the way you proceed and have success. By taking the time to think plan and take action from that place you will be setting yourself apart into the 1%. This means that you are more likely to have success at a faster rate than other business owners in your industry. Helping you set yourself apart as a leader and somebody who can be looked to for advice, guidance, and support.
